Belgium’s top exporters brings the original Belgian fries to the Philippines

Flanders Agricultural Marketing Board (VLAM) will be bringing together five major Belgian fries exporters to exhibit as a group at WOFEX Manila 2018 slated from August 1 to 4.  The five companies, Agristo, Bart’s Potato Company, Clarebout Potatoes, Ecofrost and Mydibel, will be participating at this trade show under the “Belgian Fries” banner to widen their networks, increase their share in the Philippines’ growing market for processed potato products, and heighten awareness of Belgian fries in the Philippines and the region. This is the first time that the delicious Belgian fries are being presented in the Philippines at such a scale.

These five companies represent the five biggest family-owned businesses in the industry in Belgium offering a wide range of potato products and specialties that are exported to over 100 countries worldwide. The companies are all halal-certified. Their participation in WOFEX Manila is part of a five-nation promotion campaign in Southeast Asia, coordinated by VLAM and Belgapom, the association for the Belgian potato trade and processing industry.

Belgium is the largest exporter of frozen fries in the world, with 90% of its production freighted to the global market. In 2016, Belgian fries exports rose 14.3% to 1.68 million tonnes in 2016 from a year earlier, with an increasing share going to countries outside EU.

Belgian fries have a long history and have become part of the country’s heritage, with many shops and stands in Belgium serving this delicious savory snack. In fact, the ubiquitous Belgian fry shops that can be found in every city or village have been recognised as part of the cultural landscape in Belgium, with UNESCO status being sought for the dish since 2014.

We sincerely regret the recent incident at Clark International Airport and we
again extend our sincere apologies to Mr. Jovenil Delacruz. MIASCOR
Management immediately reached out to him upon learning about this
unfortunate incident and we have already reached an amicable settlement. The
Company, together with airport authorities, also acted very quickly and placed
those allegedly involved under preventive suspension. They have since been
terminated and criminal and administrative charges have been filed against them.

We would like to stress that we do not tolerate this type of behavior from any of

demonstrate professionalism, honesty and integrity.

We shall formally issue an appeal to the President to kindly reconsider his
position on behalf of our almost 4,000 regular employees and their families who
will be affected. It is unfortunate that the actions of six erring employees in Clark
International Airport have negatively impacted the Company.

The recent incident does not define what MIASCOR stands for and how it
operates. MIASCOR has been in operations since 1974 and has presence in

DSAP teams up with J & J to empower pharma counsellors on OTC drugs

The Drugstore Association of the Philippines (DSAP) in cooperation with Johnson & Johnson Philippines conducted mobile drugstore app orientation to enhance the knowledge of over-the-counter counsellors on competency-based learning modules for TESDA certificate NC3.

 

At least 75 drugstore owners and pharmacists from different parts of the country attended the momentous activity, titled: “Developing Pharmacy Assistants through Digital Technology Educating the OTC Counsellors Orientation” held recently at the Tandang Sora Hall of the TESDA Women’s Center in Taguig City.

DSAP, the largest group of local drugstores in the country teams up with JnJ to come up with the mobile drugstore app.

Vicente Briones, RPh, president of DSAP said the two-day event was crucial in equipping OTC counsellors in using a mobile learning application where users learn basic but important knowledge for different types of drugs and their function to the different systems of the human anatomy based on TESDA NC3 standards.

“Our duty is to strengthen the capacity and technical knowledge of over the counter staff of all our member drugstores so they can render quality services to the public,” said Briones.

TESDA Deputy Director General Diosdado O. Padilla, who gave the opening remarks, commended DSAP for its continuous efforts to upgrade the skills of OTC counsellors of their member pharmacies.

On the first day of the workshop, participants learned valuable product knowledge on various drugs and their impact to the Central Nervous System, Immune System, Respiratory System as well as Reproductive System and anti-infectives

Likewise, participants also learned about drug products and their impact on skin, eyes, mouth and throat, as well as digestive system and cardiovascular system.

On top of these, speakers gave information on impact Vitamins, Minerals and Herbal Products to the body. Participants were also taught about dosage forms and drugs calculations.

On the second day, trainers learned about Dispensing Pharmaceutical Products, Supply and Inventory Management as well as Promotion, Education and Vigilance and Good Manufacturing Practice.
